Medial Branch or Lateral Sacral Branch Block

Medial branch/ lateral sacral branch block (BB) is a minimally invasive procedure used to diagnose inflammation of medial branch/ lateral sacral branch nerves due to facet joint/sacroiliac joint injury or arthritis, which are causing pain.

Medial branch nerves are very small nerves that carry pain signals from facet joints (which are small paired joints between the spinal vertebrae) to the brain. Lateral sacral branch nerves carry pain signals from sacroiliac joints.

This is a diagnostic tool for subsequent ablative procedures and pain relief is generally temporary, but occasionally may last for a prolonged period of time.

BBs are generally safe.

To be assessed as a potential candidate for this procedure at our facility, please obtain a referral from your physician to set an appointment.
